According to "reliable sources," Representative Jason Chaffetz will announce this afternoon that he will not be running against Senator Orrin Hatch, multiple mainstream media outlets began reporting around 2 p.m., today.

Chaffetz has called a press conference for 4 p.m. Mountain, today, to make the announcement official. I think this fact says more than any anonymous, "reliable sources," the mainstream reports allude to.

I do find it interesting that the mainstream media can't agree on Jason Chaffetz age. For the record, KSL, he's 44 right now.

Fool me once, shame on you
Fool me twice, shame on me.
Fool me thrice, welcome to politics.
Very few people noticed that the Stone Patrolmen podcast stopped. It happened so soon after it started. We had what we felt was a great idea (and ideal) for our show. It's a lot of work to put it together. Sadly, we didn't last; while producing episodes 2, 3, 4 and possibly 5, some of decided that we just didn't want to do this right now and so it ended.

So, what's next? Clearly, what was next is that the website simply sat motionless for two years. Is that really it? Nothing? Well, yes, for a time and now perhaps something else can come along. Something useful and fun, but it also should be worthwhile. if you're not having fun and being worthwhile at the same time, it's not likely to have any real staying power.

Now I want to to do something useful with stonepatrolmen.com. Here's the idea: Just begin again, but use a different method. I'm not going to produce a podcast at this time. It's still in my thoughts and I would love to bring it back someday, but for now, let's just write. There are so many interesting Political, Technological and Scientific questions and problems to talk about.

Welcome to the new Stone Patrolmen.
The 3rd annual Utah Open Source Conference will take place on October 8, 9 and 10 (Thursday through Saturday). You can visit [ http://2009.utosc.com/ ] for full information, schedules and to register.

Our own Doran Barton will be presenting at this year's conference and Lamont Peterson will be running the GPG Key-signing Party. Both Doran and Lamont have participated in and/or presented at both the 2007 and 2008 Utah Open Source Conferences. Both were a great deal of fun and very informative. Utah has a very vibrant Open Source community.

We at Stone Patrolmen are also working on a couple of surprises for the conference, so make sure that you're there.

In episode 1, we're learning just how to do this podcasting thing. There are some rough edges and a couple of spots of "dead air". We've been refining our process

Topics discussed include:
- Politics & Technology news
- The meaning of the Preamble of the Constitution of the United States of America
- Government Hypocrisy: CRA v. Bank Regulators; or Damned if they lend, damned if they don't.
- Why Does Windows Vista Suck?

We have already planned out and even recorded some sections for the next several episodes. We are currently planning on posting one episode every 2-3 weeks, but hope to increase the frequency to 1 per week, soon.

We hope that you enjoy the start of this new podcast. Please, leave a comment or trackback to us from your own blog or website. Let us know what you think and how we're doing. Tell us what topics you would like to hear more about.
